Sport has played an incredibly important role in shaping societies. Sport helps us build confidence, strengthen relationships, and ultimately discover our potential and capabilities. That is why the Girls in the Lead team is super excited for International Day of Sport for Development and Peace this upcoming Monday, April 6th.
In 2013, the United Nations declared April 6th as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This declaration came from a growing recognition of the incredible role that sport plays in the advancement of social and economic development, as well as human rights. Since its declaration, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace has been a time for celebration and recognition of the contributions sport has made in our global society.
Although we are bummed that we all can?t currently celebrate in-person. There are other ways to get involved! Be sure to check out our social media accounts (Instagram & Facebook) later this week for ways to celebrate while social distancing.
